Family History “Detail” Writing and Research
- I can write as much or as little as you want. Many people don’t want a whole book–they only want help fleshing out the interesting details of a time, place, social or political history. Please see this page for more information on how I can help bring your family story to life. As they say, no job is too small!
- I am available for family history research within the United States. This is a great option if you don’t feel you know enough about your family to begin writing your book.
Family History Books – How it Works
After our initial consultation, approval of budget and determination of scope of work, we’ll begin researching the information for your book. If you choose to have me flesh-out the “narrative book” generated by your family tree software I’ll need the “book” in digital form. Alternatively, you may send a GEDCOM of your family file and I will generate the skeleton book, then begin adding detail to family members and historic events, as you direct.
My experience writing history and family history will ensure your story is told in a comprehensive, detailed, and compelling fashion.
Upon completion, you will receive a copy of the final draft manuscript for any revisions and/or approval.
Once approval is given, book production will begin.This may involve adding family photographs, images of family treasures (i.e. Great-Grandma’s teacups), or scans of official documents (military records, marriage certificates). Book layout and design comes next. Once again, you’ll have final approval before the book goes to the printer.
We work with several printers, and select the one we feel is best suited for your book. Although we recommend a hard cover and archival paper, you may choose an alternative cover and paper.
