Using Blogs to Preserve Family History

I’m a huge advocate of using blogs to preserve family history. Why?
- Blogs are easy to install
- Google loves Wordpress and tends to index it fast–so other researchers can find you
- Using a blog it’s easy to make changes and additions
- A blog is a fantastic place to “stash” online research
- Blogs allow multiple users – so other family researchers can post to the blog
- Blogs are free (Blogger and Wordpress.com)
- You have total control over your blog
- Your blog will last forever – or as long as you pay your hosting bill or Blogger keeps it up!
- Since other researchers will find you, you’ll increase information coming to you!
- They’re very, very, very easy to use.
How to Get a Family History Blog
- Hire me; I’ve installed close to 200 Wordpress blogs (see my sample family history blog ). I will host your site for free for one year; then $60 per year after that, and I will install your Wordpress blog and plugins (they make your blog more functional) for $450. I will have you up and running within 48 hours.
- Go to Blogger.com and get a free blog
- Go to Wordpress.com and get a free blog (this is different from what I install)

I’ll send you a list of what I’ll need from you to get your domain name, set up your hosting account, and get your blogging quickly! I’ll also give you a Quick Start Manual that answers all the important questions about how to do things. I’ll also be available for questions via e-mail in case you get stuck.
